We would like to give a brief introduction to some of our academic staff. All our academic staff are native western speakers. Our staff are experienced, dedicated and all have outstanding academic credentials. Dr Tom Hodgins: Head of the Department of Business English Dr Tom obtained his B.A. and M.A. in Modern Languages and Literature, and his Ph.D in Philosophy. His specialty in research was folk poetry and literature springing from oral tradition. He then went on to complete a Higher Diploma in education and was also awarded a C.T.G. in teaching through the medium of a second language. From 1990 to 1997 he lectured in Languages and Literature at the National University of Ireland and St. Patrick's Teacher Training College, Dublin. In 1997 Dr. Tom joined the faculty of the University of California, Irvine,swhereshe was professor of English and Comparative Literature. His poetry collection Celtic Echoes has been nominated for a special prize in Britain. He also teaches international courses on the philosophy of Martial Arts and in the year 2000 was inductedsintosthe USA Blackbelt Hall of Fame. Mr Robert Butterfield: Lecturer Mr. Butterfield is a British national, one of the College's lecturers for Business English. He has a teacher's certificate from London University, a Personnel Management Diploma, and a Master's Degree in Linguistics. He has been teaching English for 23 years in several countries such as Spain, Germany, France, and most recently, Oman Mr Scott Hipsher: Lecturer Mr. Hipsher is an American. He has a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Management Studies from the University of Maryland, USA, and an MBA in Finance from Bangkok University. He has worked in the agricultural, plastics, and lumber industries. He has been a race horse trainer and spent over 10 years in the US Navy. Various teaching positions in Bangkok include almost two years at Bangkok University. Mr Desmond Lobo: Lecturer Mr. Desmond graduated with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Toronto and has obtained a professional qualification from the Society of Actuaries. His work experience includes developing computer simulation models and teaching courses in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, and Computer Science. He is currently working as a lecturer in mathematics. Dr David Bates: Lecturer Dr. Bates graduated from Roosevelt University, Chicago, Illinoisswhereshe earned both his BA in Education, majoring in English, and his Master's Degree in School Administration. He earned his Doctorate of Education degree from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. He has been a classroom teacher from grades 6 through graduate school. Prior to joining our College, he served as an undergraduate (USA) college dean in Singapore and a director of international affairs at two major universities in Mexico.
