　　The University of Wisconsin System is one of the largest systems of public higher education in the United States, serving more than 175,000 students each year and employing more than 32,000 faculty and staff. It is made up of 11 four-year comprehensives; two doctoral/research universities—UW-Madison and UW-Milwaukee—known worldwide for numerous scientific breakthroughs; 13 freshman-sophomore UW Colleges campuses offering an affordable liberal arts foundation transferable to any of the four-year universities; and the statewide UW-Extension.
