  罗纳德-里根(1991~)美国第40任总统(1981-1988),共和党人。曾任加利福尼亚州州长(1967-1988),长期从事广播、电视和电影工作。在任期间,以其幽默、风趣,深得人们的喜爱。

  Ronald Reagan, the fortieth President of the United States, is so charming and affable,"even his enemies fi nd it difficult to dislike him," according to most of t he newpaper reporters. Reagan's charm lies in his keen sense of humor, particularly his ability to laugh at hi mself. In February 1981, he turned seventy. At the dinn er held at the national press club, washington, D.C.,Re agan joked freely about his age and brought the house d own with every humorous remark he made.

  "I know your organization was founded by six newpap er women in 1919," he paused. With a twinkle in his eye s, he added, "It seems like only yesterday." He went on to say, "Middle age is when you're faced with two temta tions, you choose the one that will get you home by nin e o'clock." The septuagenarian President said, "Thomas Jefferson told one of his friends not to worry about ol d age. I have felt much better ever since he told me th at."

  Even when he was faced with a life-and-death traged y, Ronald Reagan did not lose his sense of humor. On Mm arch 30th, 1981, he was shot by John Hinkle, an unstabl e young man. With a bullet in his chest, Reagan was res hed to the hospital. When he saw the doctors in the ope rating room, he grinned, "I hope you all Republicans." One of the doctors assured him, "today, we are all good Republicans, Mr Presidents."

  When the operation was over, doctor asked how he fe lt. Quoting the comedian,W.C.Field, "All in all, I'd ra ther be in Philadelphia." When his wife, Nancy rushed t o his bedside, Reagan apologized, "I forgot to duck, ho ney." The head nurse tole Reagan that he was healing fa st and then added, "keep up the good work." He cried, " you mean this might happed several time more?" when tol d that three other men were also hurt in the attempted, "that's great news. Get four bedpans and let's have a r eunion."
