On human genome project and how genome is changing the future II

　　In 1990, the HGP was started formally in the U.S.A, and subsequently joined by britain ,japan, france, germ any and china in succession. Each country has undertake n its own task.. the task of the chinese scientists was to measuring the sequence of 30 millions base pairs in the third pair of chromosome, accounting for one percen t of the total amount of the research work. The human g enome research centre of the inheritance ressearch inst itute of the CAS, the north research centre of the stat e human genome ressearch group (SHG) and the research c entre of the SHG were responsible collectively for the task. On may 11, this year, the chinese scientists decl ared that their task had been basically completed. On j une 26, president clinton of the U.S.A announced that t he human genome sketch had been regularly completed by the six participant coutries. The chinese scientists sa y that with just a few more years effort a fine more ye ars effort a fine sequence map of human genome wil be d one. This will be an achieverment of epochmaking signif icance in science histroy.

　　Although our task is only one percent of the total amount of the research work, it indicates that in the g enomelogy domain our country has a share with other adv anced countries and its academic level in life science and bioindustry had approached that of the developed on es.

　　The research of human genome is a basic scientific research, a research into human beings on the molecular level. Its prospects are quite promising, especially in the aspects of promoting disease, increasig the life sp an, and so on. An academician chen zhu of the CAS holds that the researh work of measuring the sequence of geno me is fundamental to make clear what are the exact posi tion of 100 thousand genes in 46 chromosomes, which gen es are related to diseases, and which genes are related to physical growing.

　　This will result in deciding all genetic codes and uncovering all mysteries of life. This will become an i mpetus for medical science development and will blaze a new technical trail in bio-pharmacy industry and gene h ealth food insustry.
