On June 18,1999,a brand-new English teaching and le arning program "OUTLOOK--English Magazine" appeared on CCTV-1 and CCTV-2.This program has made a breakthrough in style, departing from the traditional mode of lectur ing, and adopting a magazine-like format with different "articles" and things of interest to the viewers. The m agazine's topics have new information about the world, fashion, language, news, movies and music, in simpleEng lish, to stimulate the viewers language learning. Itcon tains fresh information on topics that will please the general viewer.

　　Two young people host "OUTLOOK--English Magazine"in English. Key points and language that is more difficult are explained in Chinese or interpreted into Chinese ca ptions on the TV. Each issue of the program lasts for 3 0 minutes and is composed of five segments:

　　1.EYES ON THE WORLD: This segment includes explorat ions into different parts of the world, strange and int eresting events, the culture and history of differentco untries, and introductions to various high-tech product s that will interest the viewers.2. MY FRIENDS: This se gment will introduce different people of interest, incl uding foreign friends visiting China or working and stu dying in China, as well as Chinese friends who have liv ed in other countries or have interesting jobs. In addi tion, joint-venture staff and tour guides from travelag encies will also introduce some exciting things from ab road.3. GOOD TIMES: Viewers will find themselves in awh ole new world of original dialogues and soundtracks fro m classic movies and Music Videos.4. LET'S TALK: Topics include every-day conversation and cultural discrepanci es between the east and the west. Viewers will have a n ew understanding of he difficulties they confront inEng lish learning in a lively and light atmosphere.

　　5.HERE AND THERE: This segment brings the latest in formation about English learning, training and academic exchange. It is shown alternately with "GOOD TIMES".

　　One program each week, 30 minutes, broadcast twice

　　First show 16:10-16:40 every Saturday on CCTV-1

　　Second show 19:00-19:30 every Friday on CCTV-2
