Pharmacy II

　　M:Would you prefer the generic?

　　W:What's "generic"?

　　M:It's the same medication, same quality, but at a much lower cost.

　　W:Great. I'll take the generic brand.

　　R:There're maybe other choices too. They may say" w ould you like it in a liquid", because it's for childre n, or "do you need it in drops", or "can you swallow it in a capsule form". That's easier for you.

　　E:And i think maybe you know those put perhaps not. 'drops' often comes in a form like nosedrops, or eyedro ps or eardrops. It's also liquid. But you drop it in. A nd then something like a tablet. A tablet is just round and flat. A capsule is long and thin and you'll open it up. You can also take out what's in a capsule. And they have different words for those different shapes of pill s, don't they?

　　R:Em. and they do different things, and it's good v ocabulary for you.

　　M:Take one tablet after each meal---three tablets a day.

　　R:You can do many things at the pharmacy actually. The pharmacy wants your business. So they'll ask you to come in and check your blood pressure, or they'll offer services for you, and they keep all your records in com puters, which is helpful.

　　E:That way they can tell whether if you take this m edicine, and then someone adds some other medicine they can see if there'll be some problem. So why don't we ha ve another look at the dialogue and we can just see how they were talking about things at the pharmacy.

　　Dialogue

　　M:Good morning. May i help you?

　　W:Hi. Yes i need this prescription filled please.

　　M:Okay. Have you had your prescription filled here before?

　　W:No i haven't .

　　M:Okay. Do you have insurance, or will you be talki ng care of this yourself?

　　W:I have insurance---here's my card.

　　M:Oh, good. Well, i see the medication your doctor ordered is a name brand and quite expensive. Would you prefer the generic?

　　W:What's "generic"?

　　M:It's the same medication, same quality, but at a much lower cost.

　　W:great. I'll take the generic brand.

　　M:Okay, here you go. The instructions are on the la bel. Take one tablet after each meal-three tablets a da y.
