Special award for Janet Jackson

　　Janet Jackson will receive a special honor at next week's American Music Awards (AMAs).

　　She'll be the 28th recipient of the Award of Merit, given each year for "outstanding contributions to the m usical entertainment of the American public."

　　Jackson will receive the award and a tribute during Monday night's show, broadcast from the Shrine Auditori um at 8 p. m. EST on ABC.

　　The inscription on the trophy will read: "Because o f her finely crafted, critically acclaimed and socially conscious, multi-platinum albums and because of her spe ctacular performances on music videos, television and w orldwide concerts, the American Music Award of Merit is presented to Janet Jackson."
