How to write cards II

　　E: You can write "You are my friend."

　　R: And for friendship, you could almost always say "I've been thinking of you." Or "I'm thinking of you." Or "Thoughts of you from your friend." "Love from your friend." All those are good.

　　E: Or if you have a friend who's sick, you might wa nt to get a 'get well card'. And if you have a 'get wel l card', on the inside you'd want to write something li ke "Get well soon." I think that's the most common gree ting in a 'get well card', or "I hope you feel better s oon."

　　R: I've also heard "Best wishes for a speedy recove ry."

　　E: Yes.

　　R: That an old standard saying. 'Recovery ' means g et back to a good state of health.

　　E: Your recovery.

　　R: And 'speedy' means fast.

　　E: Quickly. I wish you a speedy recovery.

　　R: Our next category is a sad one, but important. I f someone has lost someone in their family, we call tha t whole category of cards 'sympathy'. You might have se nt food or fruit or flowers to a family, but you want t o write a personal note. I think sympathy cards are ver y hard, but it's part of life so you have to know the r ight thing to say.

　　E: So you wouldn't send a card unless you knew what to say. But you could say "I'm very sorry to hear of yo ur loss."

　　R: That's the best thing to write.

　　E: Let's see what else do we have?

　　R: Our next group is all love cards, the love categ ory. This one you can see says "I love you".

　　E: Now I know we're different in the West because w e say "I love you" very easily, especially between pare nts and children. For example, I might send my daughter s an "I love you " card any time of the year, not just Valentine's Day. When you think of sending an "I love y ou" card.

　　R: Yeah. I've done that many times and I mean it as encouragement. You know, I'm not there but don't forget I love you.
