Doctors in southern Spain were so sure they had an abandoned fetus on their hands that they preserved it and immediately alerted police.
But when they started an autopsy two days later, they realized they were operating on a silicone doll, police said on Thursday.
A passer-by found the doll, which resembled a three-month-old fetus, on a sidewalk in the town of Armilla, near Granada, on July 4 and called emergency center.
It was taken to a local hospital, swheresit was stored in a liquid solution.
“It was a very real looking doll, covered in liquid which looked like placenta,”a police spokesman said.“It convinced two doctors and we immediately suspected an illegal abortion.”
Police even began a search for the mother, but that ended when doctors realized they had been fooled. |
