Two goals fromstriker Sebastian Abreu handed Uruguay a convincing victory over fellow World Cup finalists China at an international soccer friendly here on Thursday.

　　The lanky forward turned out to be the man of the match as he drove the ballsintosthe net for three times, including a goal disallowed after an offside call.

　　Uruguay, which is making its tenth appearance in the 2002 WorldCup finals, proved to be a class above the host, a debutante of the premier soccer tournament.

　　Abreu silenced a sell-out crowd by opening the scoring in the 74th minute before adding a second one fourteen minutes later. He netted at the 42nd minute when he was ruled offside.

　　Attacking midfielder Alvaro Recoba, who plies his trade in Inter Milan of Italy, was another constant threat to the Chinese defense as he almost scored in the 33rd minute only to see his lowshot blocked by the right post.

　　China came closest to scoring at the 88th minute as midfielder Li Ming sent a cross nicely in the path of Zhao Junze who shot just above the crossbar.

　　The host had another scoring chance at the 82nd minute when forward Qu Bo outpaced the Uruguay defenders only to shot wide thegoal.

　　Both China and Uruguay qualified for the coming World Cup finals, to be co-hosted by South Korean and Japan from May 31 to June 30.
