　　stumble over sth means strike one’s foot against sth and almost fall,是指绊脚的意思。例如：I stumbled over a tree root.树根绊了我一脚。

　　Stumble over/through sth means make a mistake or mistakes as one speaks, plays music, etc.特指说话或演出时出错。例如：She stumbled through a piece by Chopin.她演奏肖邦的曲子很不流畅。

　　这句话里的stumble是前一种意思。此外，stumble后常跟的介词有across/on sb/sth,意为发现某人(某物)的意思。例如：Police investigating tax fraud stumbled across a drugs rings.警方在调查瞒税案件时意外地发现了一个贩毒集团。
