Dick finds Nadia in the kitchen reading a pamphlet:
D: Hey, four-eyes, whatchya reading?
N: Actually, Mr. 20/20, I'm thinking aboutshavingslaser eye surgery to rectify1 my vision.
D: Oh, a brochure about the LASIK procedure! Are you sure that's your best bet? Isn't that the oneswheresthey have to cut your eyes right open!
N: No need to be quite so dramatic, Dick! See for yourself: A precision mechanical device slices a flap in your cornea, see? Then the surgeon peels it back to allow a computerized laser to remove tissue from the deeper layers.
D: Wow! Cool pictures. So the amount of tissue to be vaporized is actually programmedsintosa computer beforehand?
N: That's right. Some people report perfect vision immediately afterward.
D: It says here the operation only takes about ten minutes per eye, so you could easily have both done on the same visit.
N: But I'll have to wait a few years: I'm only twenty-one, and doctors recommend you be at least twenty-five, when your eyesight should have stabilized.
D: You can use the time to save, because I've heard that LASIK surgery could set you back over thirty thousand.
N: Thirty thousand per eye?! For that kind of money, I'd expect X-ray vision and nothing less!
