Matti Hautamaki of Finland set a new world record and won the season's final World Cup ski jump event at Planica, Slovenia, yesterday, but the overall title went to Poland's Adam Malysz - the first athlete to win it three seasons in a row. Hautamaki jumped 231 meters - beating his own world record of 228.5 meters established during qualifying here - and 224 meters, to collect 450.5 points. But he was only eighth in the season's overall tally. Sven Hannawald of Germany was second yesterday, jumping 214.5 and 217 meters, and Hideharu Miyahira of Japan finished third. Malysz was only fourth yesterday, but took the World Cup overall title with 1,357 points. Hannawald was second with 1,235 points, followed by Austrian Andreas Widhoelzl with 1,028 points. |
