GUANGXUN Environmental Protectionsgroupsis seeking approval from the city government to build an 88-storey twin tower at the site of the Shanghai Shipyard in Pudong's Liujiazui.

　　As planned, the shipyard on the Huangpu River will be moved to Chongming Island to give space to the tower project.

　　Li Xiang, chairman of the group, told Shanghai Star that Disney International once intended to use the site as a venue for a new amusement park in Shanghai but it was declined by the city government for the reason that an amusement park is unsuitable for a financial centre.

　　The two buildings, costing 10 billion yuan (US.2 billion), will win the financial support from 1,000 environment-related enterprises. Of these, half are companies from 16 countries, Li said.

　　According to Li, one building will be used as offices for 1,000 environment-related companies and the other will consist of a hotel and a private college of environmental protection. If started, the project will take about five years to complete.

　　Together with the US-China Foundation, thesgroupswill launch the Sino-US forum on environmental protection in mid-April as a platform for Chinese environment-related enterprises to communicate with the world's financiers and investors.

　　Zhang Tao from the foundation's Shanghai Office said former United States President George Bush, acting in a personal capacity, is expected to lead a delegation of financiers, investors and environmental experts to the forum at the Shanghai International Conference Centre.

　　Present at the forum will be guests from Canada, Germany, Japan and France with new technologies, environmental projects and capital.
