Allianz Dazhong Life Insurance Co Ltd is emphasizing public transportation policies by offering local commuters six-month free insurance. The Shanghai-based life insurer signed an agreement with SmartClub, the local partner of Shanghai Public Transportation Card Co, to provide free accident insurance coverage for six months for all public trans-portation cardholders who register to be SmartClub members. Cardholders can receive up to 30,000 yuan (US,165) in compensation in the period if they meet with accidents involving public transport. Shanghai Public Transportation is the issuer of the city's more than 5.8 million public transporta-tion cards, which can be used on the metro lines, taxis and gas stations. SmartClub formed a partnership with Shanghai Public Transportation last year to enable card users to enjoy discounts in some shopping malls, super-markets and restaurants. "The deal can create insurance awareness among local residents and increase our brand fame," said Benno Freiherr von Canstein, general manager of Allianz Dazhong. The deal also reflects the life insurer's move to attract potential clients in the public transportation sector, officials said. Around 60 percent of Shanghai's accidents occur in the public transportation sector, according to reports by Allianz Dazhong. |
