A //group// of 71 travelers from Britain walked on Saturday along some 25 kilo-meters of a Beijing section of the Great Wall to raise funds for breast cancer patients. The walking program was organized by Breast Cancer & Care, a British foundation established in 2000 to provide support for breast cancer patients. Each year BCC arranges a traveling program for British people and walking in China is one of the most popular trips, said Jo Rossiter, the foundation's representative. //Group// members, aged from 20 years old to 50 years old, have been in China for three days and helped raised 120,000 pounds in Britain. About eight tourist groups are scheduled for this year. Karen Gray, a traveler suffering breast cancer, said she was overjoyed walking on the Great Wall as she had never been to the country before. The best way to fight against disease is to participate in activities like this and to help other patients, Gray told Xinhua news agency. Four years ago, Gray had almost given up hope after undergoing three operations, but her confidence was restored with help from some cancer foundations and her situation later improved. |
