World Peace King Cup organizers will go ahead with the eight-team tournament involving European clubs AS Roma, PSV Eindhoven and Sao Paulo of Brazil despite the SARS outbreak forcing soccer cancellations throughout Asia. Italian Serie A club Roma and Dutch powerhouse PSV Eindhoven were drawn last week in the same pool as American Major League Soccer club LA Galaxy and Sao Paulo for the July 15-22 event in South Korea. Bayer Leverkusen of the German Bundesliga and French club Olympique Lyonnais were grouped with Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa and Seongnam Ilwha. Home team Seongnam Ilwha will face Leverkusen in the tournament opener. The winner of the World Peace King Cup, established to promote world peace through soccer, will earn US million, while the runner-up receives US,000. |
