Ford Motor Co is entering its next century with 87 different vehicles under eight brand names. It plans to add 65 new products over the next five years. Here is a look at some of the vehicles over the years that have helped shape the company odel T Perhaps the most famous vehicle ever produced, the "Tin Lizzie" chugged into history in 1908 and became the symbol of low-cost, reliable transportation. The 1914 model was the first version built on Henry Ford's moving assembly line and was available "in any color as long as it's black." The reason: black dried faster than other colors, allowing for quicker production. Original price: US.

Model A The introduction of the Model A in December 1927 rivaled Charles Lindbergh's trans-Atlantic flight as the top news story of the year. The car was lower and a bit sportier than the tall, boxy Model T. Henry Ford reportedly gave the first Model A to his friend Thomas Edison. Original price: US.

1941 Lincoln Continental This luxury model evolved from a customized Lincoln Zephyr that Edsel Ford, Henry's son, created for himself to drive on vacation in Florida. It received such an enthusiastic reception the automaker decided to place it in production. The Lincoln Continental became Ford's high-end car. Original price: US,778.

F-Series Pickup Launched in 1948, the F-Series has become the world's best-selling lineup of trucks. Ford has sold more than 27.5 million F-Series trucks worldwide. Today, they account for about one quarter of the company's sales. The series started with eight models, ranging from the half-ton F-1 to the heavy-duty, three-ton F-8. Ford will begin producing a new F-150 later this year. Original price: US,232.

1955 Thunderbird Determined to compete with Chevrolet's Corvette, which debuted in 1953, Ford introduced the Thunderbird in 1954 at Detroit's first postwar auto show. The two-seater was marketed as a "personal car" rather than a sports car. The 2001 model mirrored the original, but demand has tapered off and Ford said it'll likely retire the T-bird in the next few years. Original price: US,944.

Edsel Launched in 1957 to plug a gap between the Lincoln and Mercury brands, the Edsel named by Henry Ford II in honor of his father - was a legendary blunder. The large cars hit the market during a mini-economic recession, and consumers were prone to shy away from bulky gas-guzzlers. Original price: US,484.

1964 1/2 Mustang The original model took on the "1/2" designation because of its first public showing on April 17, 1964, at the World's Fair in New York. Ford division boss Lee Iacocca and product manager Donald Frey were the brains behind the car, which became one of the industry's best-known nameplates. It had a long list of options that allowed buyers to create anything from a six-cylinder economy ride to a high-performance sports car. Original price: US,308.

Pinto This subcompact became a hot seller for Ford after its introduction in 1970. It was considered a vehicle, like the Chevy Vega, to take back some of the market gained by small import models such as the Volkswagen Beetle. The Pinto's 10-year run was marred by litigation over the car's fuel tank design. Twenty-seven people died during the 1970s in fuel tank fires in the Pinto, which Ford eventually recalled. Original price: US,919.

Taurus The car's rounded, aerodynamic styling presented a groundbreaking design for the family sedan when the Taurus was introduced in 1986. The gamble paid off, and other automakers quickly followed. The Taurus was named Motor Trend's 1986 car of the year and became America's top-selling vehicle the following year. Ford is expected to phase out the model in the next few years. Original price: US,322.

Explorer Ford replaced its Bronco and Bronco II in 1991 with this new sport utility vehicle, which became a hit among families who opted for its rugged luxury over family sedans, station wagons and minivans. Original price: ,656.
