India yesterday test fired a short-range surface-to-air missile capable of targeting aircraft and sea-skimming missiles, Press Trust of India news agency said. The missile, named Trishul, or spear, has a range of up to nine kilometers and a radar guidance system, PTI said. The test launch is unlikely to affect the confidence-building measures under way by longtime nuclear-armed rivals India and Pakistan. Both carry out such tests routinely. India has conducted four missile tests in the past month. The other three were of the surface-to-air missile Akash, or sky, with a range of 25 kilometers. |
