Luis Gonzalez broke an eighth-inning tie with a two-run triple and Quinton McCracken added a bases-loaded triple as the Arizona Diamondbacks held off the Houston Astros in the ninth for a 7-6 win on Monday, their season-high sixth straight victory.

After the Astros rallied for four runs in the ninth inning to cut it to 7-6, Brady Raggio retired Richard Hidalgo on a grounder with two on base for his first career save.

Arizona manager Bob Brenly wasn't too familiar with Raggio before his callup from the minors last weekend, but he likes what he's seen of him in two appearances so far.

Ricky Bottalico (1-0), recalled from the minor leagues earlier in the day, pitched a scoreless eighth for his first big league victory since September 18, 2001.

The loss ended Houston's three-game winning streak and dropped the Astros two percentage points behind the first-place Chicago Cubs in the NL Central.

In Montreal, rookie Claudio Vargas allowed three hits in eight innings and Edwards Guzman hit his first homer in nearly two years to lead Montreal past Pittsburgh 3-0.

Making his 11th start since he was recalled from minor league team Edmonton on April 24, Vargas (4-3) allowed singles to Aramis Ramirez and pitcher Jeff Suppan, and a double to Matt Stairs.

Guzman, whose contract was purchased from Edmonton on June 7, connected off Suppan (5-7) with one out in the third.

In San Diego, Colorado's Shawn Chacon became the National League's first 11-game winner with his second win in five days against San Diego. The Rockies whipped the Padres 5-1.

Chacon (11-3) held San Diego to four hits in seven innings to win his third straight start and seventh of eight. He tied his season high with eight strikeouts and walked one.

In San Francisco, Barry Bonds stole the 500th base of his career and scored on Benito Santiago's single in the 11th inning as San Fran-scisco beat Los Angeles 3-2.

Bonds led off by drawing a walk from Los Angeles closer Eric Gagne (1-2). He became the first player ever with 500 stolen bases and 500 homers, taking second without a throw.

In the American League, Victor Zambrano allowed five hits in seven innings and Damian Rolls homered twice off Roger Clemens as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays beat the New York Yankees 4-2 on Monday to stop a five-game losing streak.

Zambrano(4-4), who pitched eight scoreless innings against the Yankees last week in a game in which Clemens took a no-hittersintosthe eighth inning, struck out six and walked four after falling behind 1-0 on Alfonso Soriano's 20th homer on the first pitch of the game.

In Boston, Tim Wakefield pitched six scoreless innings before leaving with a back injury, and Kevin Millar homered and drove in two runs to help Boston beat Detroit 3-1.

In other AL action, it was, Athletics 3, Rangers 1; and Blue Jays 13, Orioles 4.
