With a huge number of visitors thronging the 2003 Shanghai Pudong World Carnival, its organizers revealed yesterday that about 80 tons of garbage was produced at the 35,000-square-meter funfair every day. Faced with the growing amount of trash, the organizers have added 50 more sanitation workers for daily clean-up work, increasing the total number to 110. In addition, the number of coin-operated mobile toilets have been boosted to 60. The opening time of the fair has also been advanced by two hours to 1 pm. The carnival ends on Sunday though organizers have sought permission for another 75-day run in late August. |
