China may invest more than 1 billion yuan (US million) to boost power generation at the Three Gorges Dam, the world's largest hydropower project, to help head off shortages amid surging demand for electricity, said a vice president of China Yangtze Three Gorges Project Development Corp.

　　The funds may be used to build six more generators at the dam, in addition to the 26 already under construction, Guo Tao was quoted by Bloomberg News as saying. The money to build the additional generators will come from the company's own cash reserves, he said.
