One of the country's first generation of Chinese-made luxurious Red Flag sedan cars failed to be auctioned off at the just-concluded international automobile fair in Changchun in Jilin Province. The minimum price of the car was preset by the owner at 520,001 yuan (US,650), only one yuan more than a recently auctioned Lincoln sedan used by a pop star in a TV series. However, after several rounds of bidding at the auction held last Saturday, the price failed to pass 510,000 yuan, 10,001 yuan short of the reserve price. The Red Flag in question, from the CA72 category, rolled off the line in 1959 at the then Changchun First Automobile Works, and was specially designed and made for the grand celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The rear logo and the sunflower design on the steering wheel are both pure gold, and the tail lights were designed after palace lanterns. The addition of cloisonne, lacquer from Fujian Province, and brocade typical of Hangzhou. |
