Since Sept 11, 2001, Americans' and westerners' attitudes toward flying is not quite the same. The relative feeling of peace and security before the attacks is no longer taken for granted. Some people are still reluctant to fly and would prefer to drive or take a train if possible. Most Americans, however, have tried to resume their lives as normally as possible. Some have adopted a philosophy of "Tragic Optimism" which is the ability to hope in spite of and because of tragic experiences. |
