　　Claudio Pizarro headed in a 14th minute goal and fellow forward Giovane Elber broke his drought, scoring for the first time this season as Bayern beat Hamburg 2-0. That sent the North German team down to its worst start in 31 years.

　　Elber, who has lost his starting job to Dutch striker Roy Makaay, came off the bench and a minute later juggled a Michael Ballack pass into the goal. Elber said he felt no vindication by scoring, even though Makaay again wasted a top chance. The Dutch international hasn't found the net since being acquired from Spain's Deportivo De La Coruna in a big deal to improve Bayern's chances in Europe.

　　Pizarro has scored in every league match, while Bayern moved to second in the table, points even with Werder Bremen and VfB Stuttgart at 10 after four rounds.

　　The Munich-Hamburg game was chosen as the celebration match because it pitted the only team that has played the Bundesliga every year against the club that has won a record 17 titles.

　　Former Bayern forward Gerd Mueller was selected as the Bund-esliga's best player ever during a television gala on Saturday in which the German greats attended.

　　Mueller set scores of records that will probably never be equaled, such as 365 goals in 427 Bundesliga matches and 40 in a single season. He also has scored 14 World Cup goals, the most in history.

　　In the French league, Monaco beat Paris Saint-Germain 4-2 on Sunday but lost Shabani Nonda for several months after the Congolese striker injured his left knee at the start of the match.

　　Nonda, the league's top scorer last year, sustained the injury seven minutes into the match after being tackled by PSG's Jose Pierre-Fanfan.

　　The win elevated Monaco to second place with nine points, just one point behind leader Lille.
