　　Twelve-year-old Tom Canty stood patiently outside the gates of Buckingham Palace hoping for a glimpse of the crown prince, Edward Windsor. Tom tried to imagine what it would be like to live a life like Prince Edward’s. Tom had never known riches himself, for he spent his days as a beggar wandering alone through London.

　　Suddenly, a handsome boy appeared on the palace grounds. Tom was amazed: This had to be Prince Edward! Palace guards saw Tom and arrested him for staring at the prince. Edward saw the commotion, however, and quickly came to see what was happening.

　　The prince chatted with Tom and invited him to play. Noticing that they looked alike, they exchanged clothes for fun. Unbelievably, in Edward’s clothes, Tom looked like the prince, and in Tom’s clothes, Edward looked like a beggar. As a result, when Edward ordered the guards, he was thrown out of the castle, and Tom literally found himself in the prince’s shoes.
