In USAmany College students take summer work as volunteers for non-profit organization. But when they decide to spend the summer working for a non-profit organization must choose commitment and ideology over the bottom line. How about their feelings﹖Nowlet's go through the ideas of those students. Getting paid for something I'd have done for free ″I just finished my freshman year at collegethis whole year I have worked for volunteer and non-profit organizations and I am doing the same this summer too. Not only is it a worthwhile endeavouryou actually get to learn a lot about the society you are living inthings that you never knewbut always thought that you did. My job pays only$7.25/hourbut what matters more than the pay is the satisfaction that I get out of it. Putting it in a different waywhat's better than getting paid for something I would have done for free﹖″ A blind blessing ″I worked at the American Council of the Blind in D.C.(哥伦比亚特区)this past summer. I was paidbut it is a non-profit organization. I am blind myselfand am a political science major interested in legislation/advocacy. This gave me the perfect experience. I was able to sit in on Senate hearingswrite articles/reviews for our monthly magazine″The Braille Forum″help organize and attend some of the 10th anniversary of the ADA paradeshelp initiate pedestrian safety signals for the blindattend and advocate at FCC rulingsespecially the one for descriptive video services for the blind on televisionand do typical office work. For more informationplease visit www.fcc.gov www.acb.org www.aapd.org.″ A great experience....... ″I do volunteer workand I think it's really fun. I am a cheerleading coach(啦啦队队长) during football seasonand there isn't anything that I don't like about doing it. It's a wonderful experience and it makes you feel so great about doing something good for your community and not worrying about getting paid. And it especially helps to do something that you love to do and could do on a regular basis.″ For love or money ″I once had a nonprofit job but it didn't last long because it wasn't paying my bills. Yeait's sweet but wait until that phone bill comes in.″The phone is that thing that's glued to your ear ″What's love got to do with it﹖″ ″I love my volunteer job.I work at the Free Clinic of Greater Cleveland in a youth theater troupe called'What's Love Got To Do With It﹖'theatre troupe.we travel to schoolsyouth centers'the Y'etc...We perform short skits on social issuessometimes we have the audience do role plays.I meet kids from all over North East Ohio.I love itI've been involved since the10th gradeI'm a senior nowcollege freshman after august 11th.If your in the area their holding auditions leave a message at216590-acts.″ Earning much more than money ″I have spent the last few years working with as well as working for non-profit/volunteer agencies. I have met more dedicatedkind-hearted people than I could have elsewhere. Because voluntary work often gets a bad rapit's not worthwhile workotherwise you would get paidI found everyone I spoke with very receptive to helping me getsintosthe field. They saw that I was interested in these altruistic matters even without getting paidand thus were more certain of my integrity and dedication. I didn't have to organize that eventbut I did.I would love to work with the non-profit communitycertainly funds even within the agency are tightbut the programs are no doubt of extreme importance.″ |
