MOVADO, together with its latest spokeswoman Karen Mok, recently presented the "Art of Time" exhibition in Shanghai, displaying a rare collection of antique watches created in the 20th century. At the same time, its latest collection of Museum Automatic and new Esperanza time-pieces was also introduced. The "Art of Time", appearing for its Shanghai premiere, featured 31 antique watches and over 300 contemporary watches, among which were many award-winning and patented innovative designs that have never been shown in China before. These unique timepieces include the original Polyplan (1912), the world's first wristwatch with a curved movement and case, the Ermeto pocket watch (1926), as used by Albert Einstein, along with the one-of-a-kind Elliptica collection, Novado's most expensive modern watches, including the Elliptica Minute Repeater and the Elliptica Skeleton Quartetto priced at 1.65 million yuan (US$200,000) and 490,000 yuan (US$58,800) respectively. With its name meaning "always in motion", Movado was founded in Switzerland in 1881 by Achille Ditesheim and his team of six employees. During its 122 years, Movado has registered over 100 patents. Movado was first displayed in China, in Shanghai, during the 1920s and 1930s, officially re-entering the market in 1996. |
