Malaysian sports officials said organizing the Southeast Asian Games every two years had become too difficult and expensive, and that they should merge with the larger Asian Games. The Malaysian plan could see the SEA Games held as a stand-alone event every four years, and be absorbed into the Asian Games in the interim years. Officials from the Olympic Council of Malaysia and the government's National Sports Council said they would raise the plan, which includes cutting the number of events by a third, at the SEA Games Federation meeting in the Philippines next year. |
