Delphi, the world's leading automotive parts maker, will expand its manufacturing capability in Suzhou in Jiangsu Province. The company will spend US$40.5 million on two new plants for Delphi Electronics & Safety Division to make electronic products. Further investment in China is based on the rapid development of China's vehicle market, the company said. Delphi China had group revenue of US$650 million last year, a 50 percent rise on 2002 and remains the largest foreign automotive supplier in China. Construction of the new plants is estimated to be completed by September. Manufacturing capability will cover the entire production process from circuit board assembly to packaging and testing, the company said. The facility in Suzhou produces audio systems, body computers, power train controllers, security products and airbag controllers. Last December, Delphi announced it will invest at least US$50 million on a new technical center in Shanghai by 2009. In China, Delphi operates 14 joint ventures and wholly foreign-owned enterprises. |
