Family members of the two Chinese students murdered in Norway last month left Shanghai yesterday for Oslo to handle the arrangements. The parents of Wu Yuhang and the father, along with two relatives, of Yu Ningyan arrived in the city on Monday to get visas. Their flight left at 12:30pm yesterday and was expected to arrive in Oslo, the Scandinavian country's capital, in 13 hours. The officials from the Chinese Embassy will meet them at the airport. "We will meet the deceased for the last time, and cooperate with the Norwegian police in the murder investigation," Yu's uncle told a local newspaper. "We don't have a clear plan for the trip, as our schedule in Norway has been arranged by the Chinese Embassy." Both families said the tragedy imposed a heavy burden on them mentally and financially. "We are pained to lose our son," said Wu's mother. "To help him go abroad, we have already borrowed more than 100,000 yuan (US$12,048). We had to borrow another 30,000 yuan for the trip." Both of Wu's parents are laid-off workers, while Yu's parents are farmers without stable incomes. Wu, a 22-year-old male student, and Yu, a 23-year-old female student, were found dead in a university apartment, where they were studying, after Wu's cousin called police on February 20. According to police, they couple were murdered a few days earlier. Thus far, there is no official information on the investigation. The two victims were from Fuqing City of Fujian Province. They arrived in Norway last September to study in the only musical instrument college of Norway located in Sarpsborg, a small town 100 kilometers southwest of Oslo. According to their families, Wu and Yu started dating last November. They moved into the apartment of the university residence in the downtown area of Oslo on January 13. |
