24 Trapped In Xinjiang Coal Mine |

Rescuers are trying to save 24 miners, who are trapped underground in a coal mine in Hami, northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, a local official said yesterday. The accident occurred in the No. 2 Mine operated by Hami Coal Co Ltd yesterday morning when 49 workers were working below ground, said Wang Yongzhu, deputy director of the Xinjiang Bureau of Coal Mine Safety. Twenty-five miners escaped. Fifteen of those trapped are known to be alive but the whereabouts of the other nine are unknown. |
