China foiled a US anti-China attempt once again as a Chinese "no-action" motion was passed in a vote yesterday at the 60th session of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights. With 28 votes for, 16 against and 9 abstentions, the 53-member commission voted in favor of the Chinese motion, and thus rejected the US draft resolution against China before it was put to vote. It was the 11th time that US failed to pass such a resolution at the commission's annual meeting. Chinese Ambassador Sha Zukang said there was no good reason to single out his country, which has an economy that is growing much faster than that of its accuser. "Reacting from disappointment and jealousy, the United States came up with this anti-China resolution," Sha told the meeting. "China is neither heaven nor hell. It is just in the process of building a society with decent living standards." He said the US attacked other countries when it has plenty of human rights problems of its own. (Xinhua/AP) |
