Matt Clement took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning and struck out a career-high 13, leading the Chicago Cubs over the New York Mets 4-1 for their sixth straight victory.

"I guess it's pretty hard to throw a no-hitter...but that's not the important thing," Clement said.

"We're trying to keep a winning streak here, not throw no-hitters. We're trying to build on something."

Aramis Ramirez hit a two-run homer on Sunday, and Michael Barrett and Corey Patterson each drove in a run to back Clement (3-1). The Cubs completed a three-game sweep and have outscored their opponents 39-5 during their six-game winning streak.

Clement (3-1) gave up two hits in eight innings, including a solo homer to Karim Garcia with one out in the seventh that broke up the no-hit bid.

"I don't pitch for appreciation," Clement said.

"I'm out there pitching for myself, my family and my team. Getting appreciation will come if we win as a team."

Joe Borowski pitched the ninth for his fourth save in four chances.

Al Leiter (1-1) gave up three runs in five innings for the Mets, who have lost eight of 10 and scored just 13 runs in their last nine games. He was lifted for pinch-hitter Danny Garcia in the sixth.

"Normally, I'd let him go back out there. But we had a no-hitter going," Mets manager Art Howe said. "We had to try to get some offense going."

In other National League games, it was: Rockies 4, Astros 1; Expos 2, Phillies 0; Pirates 6, Reds 0; Cardinals 5, Brewers 2; Dodgers 9, Giants 0; Diamondbacks 12, Padres 7; and Braves 7, Marlins 2.

In Denver, Vinny Castilla set a franchise record with an RBI in his 10th straight game, Joe Kennedy pitched into the seventh inning to remain unbeaten and Colorado avoided a three-game sweep by defeating Houston.

Kennedy (3-0) allowed a run and five hits in 6 1-3 innings. Shawn Chacon pitched the ninth for his fourth save in five opportunities.

Castilla had two hits and two RBIs to pass Todd Helton, who drove in a run in nine straight games on May 6-15, 2001.

Mark Sweeney hit his first home run since June 13 for the Rockies, who have never been swept at home by the Astros.

Wade Miller (2-2) gave up two runs in seven innings.

In Montreal, Zach Day and Rocky Biddle combined for Montreal's second shutout, and Matt Cepicky hit a two-run double in the sixth to send the Expos to their first win at Olympic Stadium this season.

Day (2-1) scattered nine hits through eight innings. Biddle finished with a perfect ninth for his fifth save in five opportunities. The Expos won for just the third time in 14 games.
