A local police assistant has been arrested for allegedly impersonating an undercover cop in order to force drug users to have sex with him.

　　The pudong New Area Prosecutors' Office yesterday approved the arrest of Wang Acheng, 41, charging him with two counts of rape.

　　Wang, who had worked as a police assistant helping cops catch drug users and dealers in a local neighborhood, said he knew addicts were afraid of being caught and forced into a drug rehabilitation center.

　　"I decided to make use of this weakness to threaten women drug users so they would have sex with me," he allegedly told police after his arrest.

　　After finishing work as an assistant around midnight on May 10, Wang allegedly began scouting the neighborhood for likely victims. Prosecutors say he saw a good-looking young woman that he figured looked like a drug user.

　　He stopped the woman and ordered her to follow him to a nearby hotel for an official talk.

　　In the room, Wang allegedly cuffed the woman's hands and raped her. He also allegedly took her platinum bracelet and wrote down her mobile phone number.

　　When she returned home, the woman told her boyfriend, surnamed Chen, about the incident, leaving out the fact she had been raped. Chen immediately suspected the man wasn't a cop.

　　While having dinner with friends the next night, the woman allegedly received a call from Wang saying he wanted to "have another talk."

　　The woman agreed to meet Wang in the same hotel later than night. When Wang appeared, Chen grabbed and beat him demanding to see his police identification. Wang allegedly admitted he didn't have any.

　　Afraid of being fired, he allegedly confessed to raping the woman and stealing her bracelet and offered to pay 30,000 yuan (US$3,624) in compensation if Chen didn't report his crimes.

　　But wang didn't pay the money, instead reporting Chen to the police for trying to blackmail him. Chen, however, reported the rape after he was arrested.

　　Prosecutors allege Wang later confessed to raping another female drug user on May 8.
