The No. 1 Intermediate People's Court of Beijing yesterday sentenced three men for leaking a national English proficiency exam. The national College English Test (Band 4) evaluates university students' proficiency in the language and is a necessity for pupils to qualify for a bachelor's degree. On the morning of September 19, Shi Xiaolong, an official in charge of storing the test papers at Beijing-based Public Security University of China, took a copy to his office. Cao Yu, a teacher from Yuhang Training School in Hebei Province, was asked to record the content. That afternoon, Cao and Yuhang's legal person, Liu Chen, released the content to test participants at China Geological University in Beijing and University Town, where the training school was located in Langfang City, Hebei. Students paid to attend the lectures. The paper's content was also posted on Yuhang's Website. Shi and Cao were sentenced to three-year jail terms while Liu was given two years. (Shanghai Daily)
