The city's booming logistics industry has given rise to a fast-growing demand for trained professionals in the field. Chinahr, one of China's leading Web-based headhunters, saw demand for logistics professionals - ranging from managers to porters and warehouse workers - rise to 1,468 positions in April, almost doubling the demand in January. Senior management positions, such as logistics marketing engineer, transportation system researcher and warehouse directors are the most in demand, the Website said. "Spurred by endless business opportunities from both home and abroad, the country's logistics industry kept developing by leaps and bounds in recent years. That leads to a large number of new job vacancies," said Peng Dongling, an analyst at ChinaHR.com. China's logistics industry reported turnover worth 240 billion yuan (US$28.92 billion) last year, and that number is increasing by 30 percent every year. Analysts estimated that China will eventually need 6 million professionals working in the logistics industry, but currently there are no more than 10,000 trained professions in the industry. "Most of the shortage lies in managers with both a high educational background and work experience rather than porters or other simple laborers," said Zhu Daoli, a professor at Fudan University and chairman of the China Logistics Association. Different from other industries, logistics is a compound industry involving manufacturing, transportation, trading, retail service and consulting. Related professionals need to have a broad knowledge of all those areas. Besides, as logistics is a highly operational business, recent university graduates, though they might have a strong theoretical base, are far from qualified to fill the vacancies, Zhu said.
