Yahoo! Inc unveiled a search engine portal, Yisou.com, yesterday in China, which is specially tailored for Chinese Internet users. The new portal takes on a neat and simple look similar to the most popular search engine Google and its Chinese counterpart Baidu.com. "The launch of Yisou is the third important step Yahoo! has taken in China this year," Zhou Hongyi, president of Yahoo! China, said, indicating that the company is expanding its free e-mail box to 100 megabytes from 6 megabytes and upgraded its messenger service recently. Yahoo! plans to add around 1,000 servers in China next month to provide local service and enhance the support to its various upgraded services. Yang Bo, an analyst with Shanghai-based Internet consulting company iResearch, said the competition of search engine services in China will be mainly between the two alliances - Yahoo!-3721 against Google-Baidu in the future. Yahoo! acquired Hong Kong-based 3721 Network Software Co Ltd last year for US$120 million.
