A former vice president of one of China's biggest state-owned banks was jailed for life on charges of taking bribes, his lawyer said yesterday.
Zhao Ange was convicted of taking 5.8 million yuan (USdollar 700,000) in bribes while working at the Bank of China, said his lawyer, Shen Zhigeng. He said Zhao didn't appeal. Zhao, 54, was sentenced in April but the verdict wasn't released publicly until this week. News reports said Zhao was arrested in 2002. The reports said he was also convicted of wasting 50 million yuan (USdollar 6 million) of the bank's money.
