A national campaign has been launched recently to raise the moral standards of the younger generation, but we have failed to attach equal importance to improving their parents’ manners.

　　It is a common belief that the parents are the first teachers of their children. Their behavior has a profound influence on their children’s moral standards. Although they make every effort to tell their children the rules of social life, many indiscreet adults tend to turn a blind eye to these principles. They often spit in public places, quarrel with others, and push when standing in a line in the presence of their children.

　　Actions speak louder than words. However, many parents are not aware of this simple truth. Parents should keep improving their conduct so as to be good examples to their children. They must observe the rules themselves before they expect their children to follow them.
