Xinhua News Agency reported that a police in Jilin Province fainted and collapsed on duty from overwork. He died in hospital 22 days later. This is an alarming story, but the number of such tragedies is on the rise recently. According to statistics, of the 476 police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty last year, 212 died from overwork. Their average age was only 30. It is really heart-breaking that so many police officers are working at the expense of their health. We must put an end to this problem. We should strengthen cooperation among different branches of the police force, thus improving the efficiency of law enforcement. Competent officers in their specific field should take on more responsibility to lessen the burden of senior officers. We should better assign missions, employ hi-tech equipment and stress innovation in investigating criminal cases. Police administrations need to be streamlined so that more officers can go to the forefront of crime fighting. Health checks, daily physical exercise and holidays are also indispensable to guaranteeing the health of police officers. Workers’ Daily
