SHANGHAI expects to be host to 4 million tourists from home and abroad during the National Day holiday which will test the city's traffic and accommodation, the Shanghai Morning Post has reported. The number of people reserving hotel rooms is higher than that in the same period last year. And the average stay of tourists in the city is also about one day longer than before. Hotels inside the inner ring road are mostly fully occupied from October 1 to 5. Even the high-end hotels along the Huangpu River, Century Park and Lujiazui are at 70 per cent capacity. To guarantee the safety of tourists, main scenic spots such as Oriental Pearl Tower and Xintiandi have all prepared emergency plans to deal with any accidents caused by large crowds of people. If the weather remains fine, the three Metro lines expect a record high of 1.9 million passengers a day during the holiday. To help ease congestion at Metro ticket offices, five mobile ticket stalls will be set up in the main stations in People's Square and Lujiazui. With millions of tourists, along with local residents, some worry whether public toilets will be over-crowded. The government has arranged for mobile toilets to be set up in some areas. Officials also remind tourists that apart from the more than 2,080 public toilets in the city, toilets in stores and hotels are also open to the public. (Star News) |
