Archaeologists have found the oldest tree in north China in the port city of Tianjin. Experts believe that the 1,200-year-old tree was planted in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The ancient tree, measuring over 20 meters high and 1.5 meters wide, is growing in a modest courtyard in Xizui Village in the old town of Yangliuqing. The tree is hollow in some areas, and sections of its bark have fallen off. A layer of cement now protects the tree from further damage. (Xinhua) |
