Each year, World Link Medical and Dental Centers invites international students from Shanghai schools to submit artwork for its calendar. This year - the sixth - had as its theme: "Healthy living in Shanghai". More than one hundred students from eight international schools submitted artwork based on sports and activities being enjoyed in Shanghai's many parks and gardens, illustrating a cleaner, greener Shanghai. Of these, 16 students were chosen as winners and their work will be printed on the 2005 calendar. "The parks and sports are the best things about the city for me," said Jamie Choi , who left South Korea for Shanghai three months ago. As for the 8-year-old winner, Tay Li Qian from Malaysia, sports is part of his life: "I have been living here for four years. I take part in exercises with my family and friends - that's what healthy living means." "Medicine is the combination of science and art. By holding the annual event, we expect to stimulate the art talent of students and help local children in need," said Dr Lawrence Perin, World Link's medical director. World Link also donated 10,000 yuan (US$1,210) to Shanghai Sunrise on behalf of the children who participated in the contest. The donation includes proceeds from the sale of the 2004 calendars. The funds were used to build a library in a school and to pay the tuition fees for an underprivileged child. The calender sells for 30 yuan (US$3.63). All proceeds will be donated to Sunrise. Any individual or company willing to purchase the calender and help more needy children can contact World Link at 2402-8148 ext 7814 or email services@worldlink-shanghai.com |
