AFTER making a total investment of 560 million yuan (US$68 million), Shanghai Brilliance (Group) Co Ltd, the top retailing giant in China, opened its first community shopping mall this month.

　　Located in the Changning District, in the west part of the city, the Brilliance West shopping Mall, with a business area of 62,500 square metres, aims to tap the market in the local community rather than the downtown.

　　Presently, most big commercial outlets are located in the downtown area, while in outlying communities retailing facilities are far from satisfactory, according to Ye Kai, general manager with the shopping mall.

　　The shopping mall, including a supermarket, a department store, brand stores, restaurants and fitness clubs, has already made contracts with 116 retailing companies.
