ARMANI Exchange's spring/summer 2005 fashion show takes top honours for its unusual approach - no T-stage, no cat-walks, no super stars, but an interesting locale that complemented the collection's theme and spoke eloquently about what was to unfold. The invitation's intriguing suggestion that women attending the show should not wear high heels only added to the allure. To enhance the theme of the collection, the show was held in the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, with its big indoor forest, where party animals could play hide-and-seek. Models struck poses on stones or under tropical plants. The warning against high heels made sense because attendees were invited to walk across a bamboo bridge and through a zigzag passage to find the next couple of models. This spring's Armani Exchange captures the abandon of the tropics, ready to set the season ablaze with hot hues, uninhibited sensuality and self confidence. The spring look is all about prints, both sophisticated and feminine, with hints of skin. For men, Armani mixes hippie inspired floral prints with tailored blazers, over-dyed jeans with deco prints and embroidered shirts, sometimes left open like a jacket. Silhouettes are modern, loose and sexy, blending ease and versatility. The palette remains essential. Sand, black sand, beige, white, natural, mixed with deep intense tones. A range of coral, turquoise, tangerine, topaz and oasis create a dazzling prism of clothing that bursts with energy and style. This season denim takes on a whole new approach with dramatically different results. Denim is present with jeans, capris, jackets and skirts, with in-demand details. Soft fabrics creates a worn-in look. Blends of cotton and linen for suiting, denim and twills take a whole new life. Sateen is shiny and lightweight. Iridescent and semi-transparent light cottons give the collection a cheerful look. |
