Tropical storms killed at least four villagers, injured at least 18 others and leveled about 500 homes, mosques and schools in northern Bangladesh, officials and a news report said yesterday in Dhaka. Lightning killed at least four when a storm struck several villages in northern Rangpur district early yesterday knocking out power and dozens of bamboo-and-mud homes, the area's relief official said. The storm also destroyed rice crops and uprooted trees in the district, 248 kilometers north of the capital, Dhaka, he said. Another storm hit late on Saturday when most of the villagers were asleep at Khuniagachhi, Lalmonirhat district, 256 kilometers north of Dhaka, injuring six and leaving at least 800 villagers homeless. |
