Fujitsu partners with Egenera

Fujitsu Siemens Computers said yesterday it has forged an alliance with Egenera Inc to develop what it has dubbed a "Dynamic Data Center" to offer faster servers for businesses.

The Munich-based company said the alliance, worth 240 million euros (US$295 million) over three years, would take effect immediately and would be valid in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Under the arrangement, Fujitsu Siemens will become the sole provider of the Primergy BladeFrame server developed by Marlboro, Massachusetts-based Egenera and begin shipping it starting next quarter in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium and Britain.

Other countries will see the servers during the first quarter of 2006.

"This agreement is a natural extension of our Dynamic Data Center and Triole strategy," said Joseph Reger, chief technology officer at Fujitsu Siemens.

Besides offering the current platform, the alliance will also provide a framework for future joint research and development between the two companies. Additionally, Fujitsu Siemens will take a seat on the privately held Egenera's technology advisory board.

"The agreement with Fujitsu Siemens Computers is a major proof point, validating our strategy of growth through strategic alliances and geographic diversification," said Bob Dutkowsky, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Egenera.

"We were looking for a strong partner among information technology market leaders that shared our vision, appreciated our value proposition, and had the strength and breadth to deliver our solutions," added Dutkowsky.
