I’m looking for something less expensive. A That’s 1000 yuan. A 1000元。 B Mmm . . . that’s still very expensive. It’s cheaper than the other shop, but still expensive. B 呣. . . C I’m sure you can bargain here. Try and get a lower price. B Well, I’m looking for something less expensive. 1000 yuan is far too much. C How much do you want to spend? B I don’t know. Maybe a few hundred, but not a thousand! 1 You can use opposite adjectives for comparison and effect,e.g.: It’s cheaper than the other shop but still expensive / It’s cheaper than the other shop but still expensive: It’s better than the Italian restaurant but it’s still not very good / It’s better than the Italian restaurant but it’s still not very good. It’s cheaper than the other shop but still expensive /比那家商店便宜,但是还是贵。: It’s better than the Italian restaurant but it’s still not very good /这家比那家意大利餐馆好,但是还不算非常好。 2 With adjectives, you can also qualify them and compare things by using less / less and more / more, e.g.It’s less cold today(than yesterday) / It’s less cold today (than yesterday) : The shop was more expensive than the market / The shop was more expensive than the market. It’s less cold today(than yesterday) / 今天不太冷(跟昨天比起来);The shop was more expensive than the market / 这家商店比市场更贵。
