Firefighters dream of a white Christmas

　　CANBERRA (Reuters) - Australian firefighters are hoping for a barbecue, snow and a few hours sleep on Christmas Day as bushfires continue to blacken the country's southeast.

　　据路透社12月21日报道，澳大利亚东南部地区的森林大火最近一直烧个不停，而对那些始终奋战在扑火最前沿的消防员来说，他们眼下最希望看到的情景就是几天后能迎来一个雪花飞舞的圣诞节，这样便可以借机吃上一顿野外烧烤，然后抓紧时间睡上几个小时。

　　Fires have burnt out more than 800,000 hectares (3,000 square miles) of bushland in the southern state of Victoria -- an area the size of Cyprus -- and on Thursday were threatening several towns and a major ski resort.

　　这场大火已经将位于该国南部维多利亚州境内的超过80万公顷的未开垦森林地区烧成灰烬，这几乎等同于塞浦路斯的国土面积。

　　Fires were also burning in the southern island state of Tasmania and in New South Wales, to the northwest of Sydney.

　　"We'll just be on the firelines. The best we can hope for is a break and maybe a quick barbecue," a Victorian Rural Fire Service spokeswoman told Reuters on Thursday."We usually try to find time for a Christmas lunch and a sausage, but it depends on the conditions."
